A Worship & Sermon series, beginning August 8, 2026

In this series, we take a walk through the Book of Jonah – on the surface, one of Scripture’s funnier stories. Taking a deeper dive though, we can see how the story points out how Jonah at first resists, then leads, adaptive change. His response to God’s call to lead change presents us with the proverbial anxiety and resistance of change leadership. Each week, we explore a different chapter:

  • August 9 – Jonah 1, “Call, Challenge, and Change” (aka “Jonah Pelts”). God’s call is persistent, and God’s purposes are not thwarted by human reluctance, but are often worked right through it! What does it mean to adapt to face the new challenges that face us today? Come and find out how Jonah’s story gives insight into modern change leadership!
  • August 16 – Jonah 2, “How Our Faith Helps Us Face Change” (aka “Jonah Prays”). God meets people not when they are composed or deserving of it, but when they honestly turn to God in their need. Turning to the practices and habits of our faith can be a source of calm strength in the midst of the chaos of change.
  • August. 23 – Jonah 3, “When the World Changes Around Us” (aka “Jonah Preaches”). God’s mercy is not limited by human expectations of who deserves it, but is freely given to those others would write off. We can be agents of positive change in the world around us.
  • August 30 – Jonah 4, “The Greatest Challenge of Change” (aka “Jonah Pouts”). In this story, Jonah’s limited love is challenged by a God whose love is wider than our comfort, patient with our resistance, and persistent in drawing us toward mercy large enough for others. Sometimes the greatest change for the world’s good isn’t outside of us, but inside.
