A Worship & Sermon series, beginning August 8, 2026
In this series, we take a walk through the Book of Jonah – on the surface, one of Scripture’s funnier stories. Taking a deeper dive though, we can see how the story points out how Jonah at first resists, then leads, adaptive change. His response to God’s call to lead change presents us with the proverbial anxiety and resistance of change leadership. Each week, we explore a different chapter:
- August 9 – Jonah 1, “Jonah Pelts,” where God’s call is persistent, and God’s purposes are not thwarted by human reluctance but often worked right through it!
- August 16 – Jonah 2, “Jonah Prays,” where God meets people not when they are composed or deserving of it, but when they honestly turn to God in their need.
- August. 23 – Jonah 3, “Jonah Preaches,” where God’s mercy is not limited by human expectations of who deserves it, but is freely given to those others would write off.
- August 30 – Jonah 4, “Jonah Pouts,” where Jonah’s limited love is challenged by a God whose love is wider than our comfort, patient with our resistance, and persistent in drawing us toward mercy large enough for others.
