Hi! I’m Shirley Maddox. As a lay member to annual conference, I feel blessed to be able to represent our church at the 40th Desert Southwest Annual Conference June 13-16, to worship, make legislative decisions for our area, learn and grow together, and be strengthened for our non-clergy ministry.
Come join in on a week of fun and learning at Desert Skies UMC’s Music and Arts Summer Camp. The camp runs Tuesday May 28 through Friday, May 31, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. at Desert Skies’ Houghton campus. Camp is open to children who will be in grades 3 through 8 in the Fall 2024 school year. Campers will learn and play music, do arts and crafts, and finish off with a performance on Friday.
Summer will be here before we know it, and that means Vacation Bible School! This year, St. Paul’s UMC is excited to combine forces with Desert Skies UMC and Christ Church United UMC in offering a VBS ministry to kids and families. VBS is Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7, 9 am to 12 noon, on the St. Paul’s campus.
St. Paul’s UMC encourages you to consider registering your elementary and middle school youth to attend Session 1 at Mingus Mountain, the week of June 17–22, 2024. Attending a Christian summer camp has been demonstrated to have a positive impact on a child’s spiritual development and church involvement.

We’ll begin 2024 with a sermon series looking back upon some of the most impactful, “best” things of 2023! Join us as we consider the Words, Movie, Person and Character of the Year.
Some updates on the Jim Calfree Africa Project in Kenya from Vance Luke. Art and craftwork from the Maasai and Kukuyu peoples are on sale Sunday, December 10 in Brummet Hall between services.
Online registration for Spring 2024 Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is now open. Registration is online, through the Upward website. Early registration is $100, on or before January 31 After that, regular registration is $110.
St. Paul’s Independence Day Block Party returns for 2023 on Sunday, July 2 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Come join us for free grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. There will also be jumping castles, water slides, and bingo. We also welcome Cactus Country Kettle Corn, Peach Wave FroYo and Gelato, and Mafia Kitchen food trucks. The party is open to all our friends and neighbors.
St. Paul’s UMC Wonderful Wednesdays return this summer! Each Wednesday of from June 7 to July 19 (except July 5), we will have dinner and fellowship together, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm.
