Join Rev. Ron and others for a Bible Study unlike any you’ve been in before!
While the number one thing we may think of from it is the “big fish,” the Biblical narrative of Jonah, from the 12 minor prophets, describes our perennial struggle with change. This Bible Study, tentatively titled “Jonah and the Wailing” (because change makes us want to wail!), will look at the narrative of the Book of Jonah as humorously illustrative of the work of changing to meet “adaptive” challenges. “Adaptive” challenges are described in a variety of sociological works as challenges that are new and not resolvable with previous knowledge or skill; we must learn new things and adapt to the challenge.
This study is an original work that will integrate the narrative of Jonah with other Biblical stories, as well as insights from change management and leadership texts (such as Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger [InterVarsity Press] or The Practice of Adaptive Leadership by Heifetz, Grashow, Linsky [Harvard Business Press]), all wrapped up in the transformative activity of communal storytelling. Join us to learn from Scripture and social science, and see how it all comes together in the stories of your life and the lives of your neighbors.
There will be two options offered, and you are invited to sign up for either one:
- Wednesday evenings, 6-8pm (4 sessions, every two weeks: September 9 and 23 and October 7 and 21), or
- Sunday morning Sunday School, 8am (8 weeks): Sundays October 4, 11, 18, 25 and November 1, 8, 15.
