The Lamentable Tragedy of Wanda Maximoff: Living with Grief
In our Contemporary (9:30 am) Service, Rev. Ron Bartlow continues his sermon series – “MARVEL(ous) Faith” – where we consider the heroes of MARVEL alongside the heroes of our Christian faith. This week, we look at “The Lamentable Tragedy of Wanda Maximoff: Living with Grief” (2 Corinthians 1:3-7 and 4:16-18). The theme this week is grief, which is real and can impact us deeply. Wanda experiences it with the losses first of Vision and then of the “perfect life” she created. Shuri experiences the losses of her father, brother, and mother. We all experience grief, and Vision’s quote that “what is grief, but love persevering” is a beautiful summary of it. The promise of Scripture and our heritage is not that we will not grieve, but that God will be with us in that grief; even Jesus grieved the death of his friend Lazarus.
At our Traditional (8:00 am and 11:00 am) Services, Rev. Ron revisits his sermon on “John’s Incarnate Word”.
