The Evolutions of Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff: Radical Transformation

Pastor:
Passage: 2 Corinthians 3:18, 5:16-18
In our Contemporary (9:30 am) Service, Rev. Ron Bartlow continues his sermon series – "MARVEL(ous) Faith" – where we consider the heroes of MARVEL alongside the heroes of our Christian faith. This week, we look at "The Evolutions of Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff:
Radical Transformation" (2 Corinthians 3:18 and 5:16-18). The theme this week is the potential for radical change, repentance, and transformation. The good news has always been that we need not stay who we have been, but can be changed for the better. In Marvel, this plays out in the story of Tony Stark (Iron Man) in particular, who transforms from narcissistic, hedonistic playboy to an actual hero. It is the same with Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), who has a complete arc of transformation from villain to self-sacrificing hero. Our heritage and Scriptures are full of stories of transformation, including that of the trickster Jacob and tax collector Zacchaeus. Our church is a part of such stories, from the alcoholic who is able to go sober to the simple changes of heart that make us more compassionate people.
At our Traditional (8:00 am and 11:00 am) Services, Rev. Ron revisits his sermon on "Luke's Singing Savior".
