Love Songs, Lullabies, and Power Ballads (The Psalms)
Today is the seventh and last Sunday of Easter, and also Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day can be hard in light of John Wesley’s first rule, “do no harm.” There is both joy and pain associated with this holiday and recognizing mothers on it; so we will address that. Second, we rarely use the Psalms in worship, let alone choose a handful of them to be the Scriptures for the day. These four are well known and well suited to invite us to reflect on listening to God’s voice/word, feeling awe/wonder at God’s love and care for us, and joining with all of Creation to sing praise. Rev. Ron Bartlow gives today’s sermon, “Love Songs, Lullabies, and Power Ballads (The Psalms)”, from Psalm 1:1-6, Psalm 8:1-9, Psalm 19:1-14 and Psalm 23:1-6.
