Gretta Moffat School Annual Report

Mr. Jerry Giah, principal of the Gretta Moffat School, has shared the school’s annual report with us. St. Paul’s UMC has long supported this mission endeavor, named after a church member. In the report, Jerry shares the number of students (136) and that our congregation generously provides the salaries of the entire staff. The report also shares some ongoing needs for the ministry, including the building of a dormitory and the pursuit of solar power.

Anniversary Memories

In February, 2025, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will celebrate its 65th anniversary of serving Christ and our local Tucson community. As we prepare for a celebration in worship on Sunday, February 16, we invite you to share your memories of decades past. These memories will be shared in worship in our bulletin, on the screen, or perhaps within the service itself.

Do Unto Others (Worship series / Campaign for Kindness)

We believe being kind matters, and we know it could make a difference. But apparently we can all use a reminder, as the “Ben’s Bells” mosaics around town give proof. In much the same way, we are excited to share that this October we are joining with other churches around the nation in taking part in a campaign for kindness that originated with the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City: “Do Unto Others.”

Looking Inward, Living Outward (Worship Series)

Based on Daniel Wolpert’s book of the same name, during the month of September our worship series Looking Inward, Living Outward will draw from the wisdom of the sermon on the mount to inspire us to live after Jesus’ example. Each week we will consider practices of faith rooted in Jesus’ teaching, and how those practices lead us to live in such a way that the world around usmight be transformed for the better.

What is happening with Methodist “Disaffiliations”?

Some of our church members, as well as people who may just be curious about what they hear in the news, are looking to know more about what is happening the The United Methodist Church as they hear about “disaffiliations.” Here is a summary of information, originally shared in a congregational meeting in April, 2023 but updated this August, about what is going on.

On the 10 Commandments

Some weeks I find more in the Scriptural text, or my research thereof, than I can share in a standard sermon, and I have to choose what to include lest I preach longer than our average attention span cares to engage. With that in mind, and with so much good material drawn particularly from the inimitable Walter Brueggemann’s “Exodus” portion of The New Interpreter’s Bible Volume 1, I thought I’d share more here on our blog. Blessings to you who choose to visit and read!
