The Gospel as Comedy
Today is the second of Easter and also “Bright” or “Holy Humor” Sunday. This is a tradition in some churches to celebrate the joy of the Easter season with a morning of communal laughter. It is rooted in the joy that the disciples must have felt to see Jesus again, as he appeared again and again to his disciples. With this Sunday’s liturgy of joy in Jesus, we seek to embody Jesus’ exhortation, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” May we each find the laughter within us that sets our spirits free, and in that freedom, may we take God’s love into every part of our lives. Rev. Ron Bartlow gives today’s sermon “The Gospel as Comedy”, with scripture from Psalm 126:1-3, John 20:19-31, Romans 15:13.
