You don’t have to be a resident of Tucson for long before you see them. Scattered around town, particularly on schools but elsewhere as well, are mosaic murals with the two words “Be Kind” prominently displayed. An outgrowth of a nonprofit called “Ben’s Bells“, this artistic movement of murals encouraging kindness reaches and resonates with people around the world.
We believe being kind matters, and we know it could make a difference. But apparently we can all use a reminder, as these mosaics around town give proof.
In much the same way, we are excited to share that this October we are joining with other churches around the nation in taking part in a campaign for kindness that originated with the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City: “Do Unto Others.” (If you attended church this past week you may already know about this campaign, and may even already have a yard sign!)
We are excited to bring this campaign for kindness to our church and community! This campaign is an invitation to consider how we want to be treated, and how we treat others, even those with whom we disagree. What’s possible when our churches and communities lean into kindness? Join us as we come together to find out and contemplate:
- Kindness
- Compassion
- Humility
- Respect
- Love
Let’s listen and learn from one another during this important season in our church and community life. Gather your family, invite your friends, and share your witness that we can find ways to live kindly toward one another.
